The brief was to design an innovative user experience (UX) to re-engage the ‘always on’ youth of today with the BBC’s multi-channel content.
Surge is a social-voting-fuelled multi-device, multi-media platform. It connects young people to BBC content using a hybrid of tailored, live & popular feeds. Part of the challenge of the brief was its elevator pitch nature – we had to explain, showcase and sell our idea in 2 minutes flat. Alongside designing desktop, tablet, mobile and native mobile apps, we created a 2 minute video that pitched our idea in true “surge” style.
Built on a grid system, Surge’s website is completely responsive so you can stay up to date where ever you are, and its democratic social voting platform empowers young people to shape the news agenda and voice what matters. More information on the design can be viewed here.
